If you would like to try writing, or to develop stories you have already started, why not try a creative writing workshop with Afric McGlinchey. The main aim is to encourage and support new writers through discussion, exercises and free writing. Different topics are covered, such as how to enliven your language and make it more distinctive, using various techniques; how to develop character effectively; how to create a narrative voice, and how to develop our own inner critic, so that we recognise what doesn't work in our writing.
The courses aim to encourage you to think like a writer, enhance your unique writing voice, explore your imagination and discover how to use transference to fictionalize elements of your real world. Creative writing courses are offered online and in writing workshops throughout West Cork. One-to-one short story consultations are also available.
As well her many years' experience as a creative writing facilitator, Afric is a filter reader for the Fish Short Story competition, and for the William Trevor/Elizabeth Bowen short story competition.
For information about forthcoming workshops, or if you would like Afric to offer a course in your area, please contact her with your request.
